Walker Insurance Agency expands discount program to 'give back'

As a way to help the local community, the Walker Insurance Agency in Vail has worked with their parent company, Farmers Insurance, to offer insurance discounts to any employee of the Vail School District and all Rincon Valley firefighters.
Jasic Walker, who runs the agency with his wife, Mindy, said they are big supporters of the community and wanted to find a way to use their business to help others. Jasic Walker said tough economic times are causing a strain on people's finances and they need any help they can get.
"We thought it would really help out the people in Vail and give them a break," Jasic Walker said.
Farmers Insurance already offers discounts for policemen, firefighters and teachers with a college degree, but Mindy Walker said they wanted to take it a step further and asked their parent company if they could expand their discount coverage. The company agreed it was a safe risk and approved the agency to offer coverage to all district employees and firefighters, she said.
All district employees and firefighters are eligible for an 8 percent discount on automobile insurance and a 5 percent discount on other types of insurance coverage. Jasic Walker said each client is different and the discount helps customers save around 18 percent in overall costs.
As big supporters of the Vail School District and the Rincon Valley Fire Department, Jasic Walker was glad his company was able to provide this type of discount service. For the schools, Walker said the discount counts not only for all administrators and teachers but other employees like assistants and janitors as well.
After donating 100 firefighter teddy bears to the Rincon Valley Fire Department last July, Mindy Walker said the agency has additional plans to donate doctor and nurse bears to give to children at local hospitals.
"We plan on being in Vail for many years to come and we think it's important to give back," Mindy Walker said.
Jasic Walker said they simply want to make local people's lives easier and want to be a business known for supporting the local community any way they can.
"We're out here trying to make a difference and we want to be a part of this community," Jasic Walker said.
