Full slate of activities this month at Saguaro National Park
A series of programs are under way at Saguaro National Park. Explore the natural and cultural history of the park. Come along on a naturalist-led evening walk or join a local expert for a presentation in the visitor center. Programs will be offered at both districts. There is no charge for interpretive programs, but park entrance fees apply.
There will be a presentation Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. - "Prehistoric People in the Sonoran Desert."
Stop by the visitor center patio and join volunteer Walter Coe for an exploration into the prehistory of this area. This is an on-going, informal presentation.
Learn who lived here over 1,000 years ago and what they used for food, clothing and shelter. This program is wheelchair accessible, and will also be offered Jan. 22.
At 7 p.m., "Hummingbirds of Southeastern Arizona," will be presented.
Join park naturalists in the visitor center auditorium to learn about the hummingbirds found in the Sonoran Desert, those who live here year-round and those migrating.
Advanced reservations recommended, and can be made by calling 733-5153. This program is wheelchair accessible.
Jan. 9 , 2 p.m. - Sunset and Moonlight Hike. This six-hour, 5-mile hike climbs 800 feet into the Rincon Mountain foothills for views of a desert sunset and a decent under the full moon. Wear sturdy hiking boots, dress for the weather, bring a trail dinner, plenty of water and flashlight.

Jan. 10, 8 a.m. to noon - Buffelgrass Weed Pull (Rincon Mountain District). Park in the administration parking lot (first right after entering the park, follow road to the parking lot just south of the visitor center parking area).
